So, why am I on this adventure? I’d love to say that living most of my life in Michigan surrounded by water inspired an undeniable dream to sail or that canoeing halfway across that state with 19 other eleven year old Girl Scouts left me wanting more- but I can’t lie. Truth be told, I fell in love with a handsome pirate who promised me wine in the moonshine and all the adventure I could handle.

Until we purchased MoonShine, my boating experience was limited to that cross state canoe trip and an occasional afternoon on a friend’s boat- where my only job was to bring food and stay out of everyone’s way. I’ve RV’d my entire life and never shied away from pulling, driving, and parking my own rigs. Butch promised that this experience and my nerve would serve me well on the water.

Of course I knew better than to believe Butch when he told me that cruising is just like RVing on water. Nonetheless, I thought my skills like living in cramped quarters, conserving water, maintaining the dreaded blank water tank, fitting an entire kitchen into one cabinet and two drawers, organizing three seasons worth of clothes in an empty beer case, and feeding hungry people would serve me at least until we officially got underway. But nooooooo. MoonShine isn’t even home yet and I’ve already pushed a screen out the bedroom window (which in my RV, I’d simply go pick up) into the Gulf and flooded our entire bedroom and bathroom with saltwater because I didn’t close the window tight enough. I can’t wait to see how else I’m going to screw up. I only hope that Butch doesn’t end up regretting his selection of first mates and that he still offers me that glass of wine in the moonshine.

I’m ready! (ish)

“Take the Adventure, heed the call, now ere the irrevocable moment passes! ‘Tis but a banging of the door behind you, a blithesome step forward, and you are out of the old life and into the new! Then some day, some day long hence, jog home here if you will, when the cup has been drained and the play has been played, and sit down by your quiet river with a store of goodly memories for company.
