Hanging out at the docks is a big part of the boating life; you get to meet the most interesting people there. This summer at our marina we ran into a couple of folks who also hope to head out on this Great Loop adventure either this year or next, so we decided to have a little get-together to swap stories and plans. We thought maybe 4-5 couples might be interested. Well, word spread, the RSVP’s kept coming in, and we were happy as clams to see so many people interested. We ended up with 33 people attending our little soiree! Some drove several hours to get here, which we greatly appreciate. We hope everyone had a good enough time to justify their travel. We ate pizza, and talked. And talked. The room buzzed with conversation for over four hours. I heard a couple of great comments during the afternoon, Tsali, who along with Jacque were one of the couples to drive a long way to be here, was appreciative of the comradery that is exemplified by this group and Loopers in general, and a comment about how to spend time in retirement was “It’s better to wear out than rust away!” Indeed!

Over four hours went by very fast as everyone made connections and new friends. We’re already looking forward to seeing familiar faces when we get to the rendezvous in November.

As we used to say after a successful day’s sailing, “A good time was had by all.”

Cheryl and I both feel like this get-together made it all feel a bit more real now. And as Will mentioned, there’s less than 100 days to go before shoving off the dock. Uh-oh. Suddenly my list of things to do feels critical, so I’m going to quit writing and get busy.

Thanks so much to everyone who took the time to attend! We loved meeting you all and look forward to seeing y’all again on the Loop!
